Douglas Shire Council met yesterday for the May Ordinary Meeting with a number of decisions and outcomes of interest to the broader community.

Douglas Shire Council have unanimously resolved to request the Chief Executive Officer, through the Audit Committee, to engage an independent probity auditor to analyse the ferry contract process to ensure public trust and understanding in the decision-making.

Like many others, DSSG is disappointed that the situation has resulted in Douglas Shire Council purchasing the ferry – at considerable cost to ratepayers and possibly visitors. 

Is a bridge still on the agenda? Is Council going to buy the ferry and operate it? What are they going to do about the traffic queues? How much is all this going to cost the ratepayer?
