The Djabugay Nations Applicant Group has signed crucial Indigenous Land Use Agreements, marking the second phase of construction for the Wangetti Trail in Tropical North Queensland, emphasizing its cultural significance and paving the way for continued development along the 94-kilometre eco-trail.

The Trail’s first section is a 7,850m multi-use mountain biking and hiking trail from Palm Cove Jetty to Ellis Beach foreshore….

For many years, the residents of Port Haven and Ozcare have enjoyed secure and peaceful access to the beach, just a short distance from their homes, along a pathway through the pristine littoral vine forest which protects their community from storm surge and cyclonic conditions.
For residents, the walk through the forest and along the beach, and simply relaxing on the sea shore, is an integral part of their daily regime for physical and mental health and wellbeing.But that is all about to change…..

On the surface the proposal for a dual purpose mountain bike trail and walking track from Palm Cove to Port Douglas sounds like a good thing; visitors and locals can enjoy a long trail with overnight stops at intervals and a halfway point at Wangetti. General tourist businesses and indigenous TOs can benefit with jobs.

Now is your time to provide feedback on the Wangetti Trail proposal. Public comment is due in by September 11, 2020.

The latest round of community consultation and engagement on the Wangetti Trail will begin today. View the new trail alignment, eco accommodation and public camping area locations and inclusions, construction methodology, campsite construction methodology, waterway crossings, approvals process and get a sneak peak of the fantastic views that will be visible from spots along the trail….see link in article.
