Citizen Scientists Bolster Waterway Health Report Card with newly Released Mangrove Assessment
The Wet Tropics Waterway Health Report Card 2022 has been released by Wet Tropics Waterways.
It grades the condition of the freshwater basins, estuaries and marine environments across the Wet Tropics as an action of the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan. For the first time it includes data on mangrove condition.
The link between crocodiles and the coral reef
The story of crocodiles and coral reefs is far more interesting than the fact that the occasional animal is seen resting under a pontoon. The bigger story is centred not on the coral, but on the coast, amongst the labyrinth of mangrove forests where many of the creatures of the Reef begin their lives.

The Daintree Coast contains some iconic and familiar landscapes, from the wet tropical rainforests to the Great Barrier Reef, and the complicated labyrinth of mangrove systems in between. What most people don’t know is that these various systems are intricately interdependent. In reality they are not separate systems at all, but three parts of a fantastically complex whole.
