Douglas Hockey will send their first Junior teams to compete in the 2021 Queensland Hockey State Championships. This is an incredible achievement for talented youngsters, as well as for the fledgling community Sports Club that is experiencing great community support, and unveiling some serious local hockey prowess!

LOCAL recreational fishers are being urged to stay up to date with Queensland’s fishing rules and regulations by downloading the latest version of a popular fishing app.

The challenge and the excitement of catching a black marlin is without compare, with many anglers perceiving this species to be the “holy grail” of fish to catch. The only confirmed breeding ground for the majestic marlin is right on our doorstep, the Great Barrier Reef. Fishers throughout the Douglas Shire will be hooked on a new sustainable fishing promotion to be cast out across the local community next year.Douglas Shire Council received $15,000 through a partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to promote sustainable fishing practices.

This Saturday will see the return of tennis facilities to Mossman with the opening of newly upgraded facilities at Mossman State School. Mossman Squash and Tennis Club will re-open the courts on Saturday 14 November, 2020 after being closed for most of the year.

LOCAL golfers can continue to swing their clubs around the Mossman Golf Course with a crop of keen players hitting the sweet spot under a new lease arrangement. Douglas Shire Council resolved to buy the golf course land and facilities from Douglas Shire Community and Sports Club Inc, with the new lease giving local golfers a firm grip on the future of the site.

Douglas United Dragons hosted Marlin Coast Rangers in a knockout semi-final last night, the winner advancing through to the Grand Final to face Mareeba.

On Friday night the Douglas United Dragons hosted the Mareeba Bulls in a qualifying final, the winner going directly to the Grand Final in two weeks, the loser having to face the winner of third v fourth this week.
