A jam-packed calendar of Christmas events is setting the scene for the community to #DoItInDouglas to see out 2020. Late night shopping with Santa in Port Douglas, the return of a popular Mossman street party and a Christmas Sunday Market headline a ‘December in Douglas’ program unveiled by Douglas Shire Council and the Douglas Chamber of Commerce.

St Crispins Cafe played host to a glamorous “Evening of Tropical Style” on Saturday, featuring fizz, finger food and fashion.
Creative energies from Whats On In Port, St Crispins, and Cairns & Port Douglas Creative, collaborated to host an evening to celebrate tropical spirit, style, and to be frank…simply making it through #COVID2020!

The 2020 Port Shorts Film Festival will be among the first in the world to produce a simultaneous virtual and live event featuring the festival’s best ever short films, documentaries and music videos later this month.
Open Gardens / Everyday gardens by everyday people
The seeds for an open garden event in the Douglas Shire were sewn at the 2019 Douglas Shire Garden Awards night with beloved gardener, Costa Georgiadis. While the ‘Let It Grow’ awards reward the finest gardens, there seemed a missed opportunity for the public to visit and experience the beauty and unique nature of the entrant gardens. Passionate food grower and gardener, Monika Prins, also noticed that during the Covid lockdown, many fellow community members were getting their hands dirty in the garden. She decided to take action, and to start working on an Open Garden event. Her enthusiasm was unstoppable. She got novice veggie gardener, Mandy Stone, on board to help out, and they developed a plan and a vision for the project.
