Daintree Landholders and Douglas Shire Council Work to Connect and Expand Forests
This project is helping to reduce threats to rainforest species and ecological communities by improving priority areas through revegetation, weed management and habitat protection, and by finding solutions to cassowary deaths and injuries on roads. Terrain is working with community groups, traditional owners and government organisations on the project. This project is supported by Terrain NRM, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

Douglas Shire Update/ Confirmed Poisoning of Rosewood Trees On Warner Street
Council has arranged for a contractor to again remove dead branches from the Rosewood trees in Warner Street. Removal of the deadwood will give the trees the best chance of survival, as well as ensure the avenue of trees remains safe for the public.
For two days, August 26 & 27 2021, Council is requesting that no vehicles are parked in Warner Street between Grant and Owen Streets. There will also be traffic controllers on site allowing only local traffic to enter the area. These restrictions will allow contractors to work efficient and complete work within the two days allocated.

I had noted, but not grasped the significance of, the recent decision brought down in the case of Sharma v the Minister for the Environment, where eight school children challenged the minister (Sussan Ley) to uphold her duty of care for the future generations, and not approve a specific coal mine expansion in Northern NSW.
