THE World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics of Queensland are one of 19 Australian iconic ecosystems under threat. Dangers to the ecosystem include “habitat fragmentation, fringe livestock grazing, increased urbanisation, more frequent and severe fires and invasive plants and animals. Climate change poses perhaps the greatest threat overall…”

THE Bureau of Meteorology has released the latest tropical cyclone advice as tropical cyclone Niran has developed off the north Queensland coast. The cyclone is currently moving slowly northeast, but may drift a little to the west, closer to the coast, on Wednesday.

There are no significant changes to the forecast track nor intensity of the current tropical low with the 2.00pm BOM update but gales are now extending beyond the coastal fringe, with significant impact experienced in Cairns and southern areas today.

With this week’s launch of a new COVID-19 check-in app, customers will experienced reduced waiting times in queues to enter busy local venues like the Central Hotel and IronBar.

A slow moving tropical low is developing off the north tropical coast of Queensland.
